iNove Dofollow For WordPress

Without going into the in’s and out’s of the nofollow rel tag for comment posting, let’s just say I do not like it. So to this end I modified the iNove theme to take it out. There are two modifications you can make the the iNove theme. One is a fix so your can use a “Dofollow” pluging of your choice, and the other is a quick fix in the iNove theme itself.

To make a modification to be able to use a “Dofollow” plugin see the steps below:

With your code editor of choice find and open” /wp-content/themes/inove/functions.php”

# Look for these lines of code around line 230:

<?php if (get_comment_author_url()) : ?><a id="commentauthor-&lt;?php comment_ID() ?&gt;" href="&lt;?php%20comment_author_url()%20?&gt;" rel="external nofollow"></p> <p><?php else : ?><span id="commentauthor-&lt;?php comment_ID() ?&gt;"></p> <p><?php endif; ?><?php comment_author(); ?><?php if(get_comment_author_url()) : ?></span></a></p> <p><?php else : ?><?php endif; ?></p> <p>Erase all the lines above and instead insert the following code:</p> <p><?php echo get_comment_author_link(); ?>

Now save and check check your work. Install your “Dofollow” plugin you should see by viewing your sites page source that the [rel=”external nofollow”>] is now [rel=”external”>] or what ever format your plugin uses. The main point is that the “nofollow” is gone.

The quick fix should be obvious just backspace and delete the “nofollow” in the code above save the file and check your work.

Every blog is different the steps above are provided as a way that may fix an issue there is by no means a guarantee.

Showing some Love in your comment area by removing the evil rel=”nofollow” tag will get you more readers and commenters on your blogs. And will help put blogs back to the use that they where met for. So don’t let Google dictate to you what a blog is. Also on this note it is not right for WordPress developers to dictate to us, the users of there platform, by placing the nofollow in the code in the first place. If they where so nofollow happy in you could by default place a nofollow tag in the blogroll links you can’t try it.

WordPress Updates – Protect Your Blog From Being Hacked

I was browsing the internet and saw something that got my attention. It will grab yours too, trust me. I'm talking about WordPress security and vulnerabilities here, and there's a lot to say about it, so I've started a new category where to post.

The very first and most important thing you need to do to help your blog stay safe all the time is to keep it updated to the latest version. That's the most safe (at least that's what they say). Every time a new bug / security hole is found, the platform gets updated with a fix and then the bug is published. In short words, everyone knows about it.

If you do not want to mess with ftp and downloads and so on, you might want to use a plugin that does your updating automatically. This way you'll always have your WordPress blog up to date. I do not remember the name of that plugin because I do not use it, but if you wish to install it, do a simply search on Google or on site and you'll find it pretty fast. I do not use it because I do not like having too much "foreign" code on my server … you never know what can happen to your database or whatever. Therefore, I prefer to update it manually.

Oh … and by the way, I was talking about plugins. When you get a new plugin, make sure it's a safe one. Do not install any plugin just because the owner is saying on his website that plugin will help you do this or that. Maybe use a test blog to check the plugin, or maybe get a software engineer to analyze it carefully. This way you'll know it is not a threat for you or your business.

Setting Up a WordPress Blog

One of the first questions I get asked is: how many pages should I have on my website? The answer to this question is usually driven by your intentions for the site, traffic-wise. You will probably be doing SEO on your site, and each page generally should be optimized for only one, or at most two keywords. It's a question of simple mathematics. If you have one page on your site, then the number of links you can generate is by definition limited, whereas if you have 20 pages, the number of potential links is instantly multiplied by 20. If you have 200 pages, then again the number of potential one-way incoming links is exponentially expanded and this would be even more true if you had 2000 pages on your site.

  • Okay, having gotten this far, let me summarize how we are going to build your website.
  • The next thing that we are going to do is find a suitable theme (template) for your site.
  • After that, we are going to install capable plug-ins to maximize the search engine friendliness of your site, and also to make monetization of the internal (content) pages of your site easier.
  • The main page of your site will be your promotional page. This page therefore needs creating and designing. However, as it is the homepage of your site, you must also have links from this page to the internal pages of your site as well. This enables both your visitors and the search engine robots to find their way around your site quickly and simply.
  • You need to present your visitors with the opportunity of signing up for your newsletter by using a special offer that you specifically "bribe" your visitors with to encourage them to join your mailing list. Ideally, you will have a stand-alone page on your site the sole purpose of which is to add people to your mailing list, and you should also include a subscription form on every internal page of your site too (but not on the front page ).
  • Each of the content pages will be monetized, and every one will be used to maximize the number of one-way links coming into your site. Each of these pages will also be linked to your main index page, so that the most important page of your site has lots of links pointing towards it.
  • Some of the content pages will feature your own unique content materials, while others will be created using content materials that were originally created by other individuals in your market or niche.
  • After the site is ready, you will then start using additional traffic generation strategies based on keywords that you discovered earlier so that you can start generating the visitors and incoming links that you need in order for your site to be successful.

You should give a significant amount of thought to your choice of theme. The theme should match the tone and objective of your website, it should provide the functionality you need for the kind of content you will have. The selection of themes available to you is almost mind-boggling. There are any number of WordPress themes for video available, for big and small companies. You can spend hours Googling for them! Finally, the theme should work correctly with any plugins you choose to add to your site, and it should produce clean, valid HTML code (you would be amazed how many themes, even premium WordPress themes, do not do this!).
